Location & Fatcs

You may have seen a number of pictures or may have traveled to many waterfalls in the world. But it would be an exciting and extreme adventurous experience to have a visit of the world’s highest waterfalls which is named Angel Falls. Angel Falls are the highest falls of the world with the height of approximately 979 m (3212 ft). These falls are located in the Gran Sabana region of Venezuela. Canaima National Park is the place where these falls are situated and drops over the edge of the Auyantepui Mountain. This waterfall is created with the water of Churun River. This has been declared a World Heritage site by UNESCO. This waterfall is about 15 times higher than the famous Niagra Falls. The water falls are at such a big height that the water is evaporated before reaching the ground. There are strong gusts of wind by which the water is carried away and forms the mist and touches the ground in the form of vapors.

Why the name ANGEL FALLS?
The name of the waterfall may be suggesting to someone that it has any kind of link with angels or any other story of this kind. But it is not like this. Infact the name of the fall is on the name of Jimmie Angel. This is the man who visited the site for first time in a plane back in 1933. The name was given in 1937 when Angel and his three companions including his wife tried to land the plane at Auyantepui Mountain, but the plane damaged and they started journey descending back on foot which took 11 days to reach the ground. This was the very first visit of any person to the Angel Falls. To honor this effort of Jimmie Angel the name was given to the falls. In 2009 the President of Venezuela, Hugo Chavez showed his intention to change the name of the falls from Angel Falls to Kerepakupai Meru.

The Beauty
The beauty of the Canaima National is the mixture of magic and reality. This is the real beauty of the nature. This fascinating world of the park is the great combination of all beauties of the world. You can find the amazing mountains here like Auyantepui Mountain. there are mighty rivers and are in great numbers. Beautiful waterfalls astonish the park’s beauty. Big forests and savannah trees are the amazing beauties. The park covers the area of three million hectares which is the second in the Venezuela and the sixth in the world.

Tourist must know?

This waterfall is the most important tourist attraction in Venezuela. But it is still not able to attract as many tourists as it would have because it is very difficult to reach there. the waterfall is located in an isolated forest. You have to reach the Canaim camp by air which is the starting point of the river trip towards the base of the falls. To have a river trip wood curiaras are used for which a certain depth of water is required. Best time for this activity is June to December.

This is the place which everyone should try to see at least once in life time.
